Pollution and Toxic Substances

Persons injured as a result of exposure to certain pollutants or toxic substances are often entitled to compensation for their injuries. Many people are exposed to dangerous substances on their job or at home that can have devastating consequences. For instance, it is well recognized that the chemical benzene causes Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma including B-cell and T-cell lymphoma. The type of injuries from dangerous substances varies greatly. The following substances are a few of the many items that can cause serious conditions if a person is exposed to them:

  • Mercury
  • Lead
  • Uranium
  • Asbestos
  • Benzene
  • Dust from Manufacturing

Unfortunately, exposure to many hazardous substances can causes very severe injuries including:

  • Cancer, leukemia or lymphoma
  • Respiratory and breathing problems
  • Birth defects caused by the mother's exposure before or during pregnancy
  • Learning disabilities

Besides personal injuries, toxic substances also can cause damage and depreciation to real estate. Environmental contamination is a major cause of toxic damage to real property. Numerous industrial and commercial activities have been shown to cause environmental contamination to surrounding properties. Some common sources of contamination are junk yards, landfills, service stations, chemical storage facilities, chemical plants and railroad yards.

If you have suffered injuries or a loss as a result of pollution or toxic exposure, you may be entitled to damages. Our attorneys have the experience, resources and knowledge necessary to evaluate and pursue you claim.
